| When it comes to the training of your horse, finding the right trainer can be a daunting and frustrating task. Here at Powder View Stables we believe in building the absolute best foundation for any horse we work with, whether that horse is going on the be a trail mount or a competitive athlete. First and foremost we believe the foundation that all horses are trained on should consist of the following building blocks- Rhythm, Suppleness, Contact, Impulsion, Straightness, and Collection. These concepts are referred to as the Training Scale and we throughly believe that following these guidelines and allowing the horse to progress naturally through them makes them a successful and content partner. We are not all about quick fixes, the latest bit, or gadget to try to "make" your horse accomplish a task. We believe in preparing the horse and then giving the rider the tools to help the two of them preform at their best ability. We find that by following the training scale, and allowing the horse to succeed and progress at their own pace makes for a healthier, happier, animal. At Powder View Stables we instill in our horses the absolute best ground manners and respect by supplementing our training with natural horsemanship and actual horse herd techniques. By doing so we gain the animal's respect and trust. We are firm believers in building a partnership with the horses we train and then want to help the owner of that horse be successful as well. Most of all we are not a training factory, we take the time to assess each and every horse, listen to the owners goals for the horse, and then take the steps to achieve that goal. Below we have listed a few generalized packages based on different aspects of training or age of the horse, please keep in mind that these are just guidelines for you as an owner, and that the actual training package for your horse will be customized to your needs. Ground Work- Any age of horse/pony This training aspect is ideal for young horses that are not ready to start undersaddle yet, can also be very beneficial for any horse that needs a little extra respect and discipline on the ground. Horses that are in training for ground work receive several specialized sessions daily up to six days a week. Certain aspects of this training include leading, lunging, tying (crossties, and ground tying), "de-spooking", bathing, clipping, and trailer loading. Horses 2 years and over will also receive short ground driving sessions. Starting a Horse Undersaddle- Horses/Ponies 3 and up Starting a horse undersaddle the right way is so important as horses have such good memories and a bad experience at the beginning often leads to many disasters and headaches (not to mention big training bills) in the future. We always pair up ground work with starting a horse because you must have a horses complete respect and trust on the ground before you sit on them. From the beginning we build that solid foundation and strive to create a safe and happy horse to ride. We prefer a two month commitment when starting an untrained horse. Advanced Training- Horse/Pony has a minimum of 60 days undersaddle This is a generalized option for training a horse further than its initial start undersaddle. This can consist of just furthering the horses knowledge of contact, aids, and transitions all the way to preparing a schooled horse for competition. . Please contact us for further information on training for your horse! We accept horses here at our farm and at other local barns for training. Also depending on your location and facilities we may be able to travel to you! |
