When it comes to the training of your horse, finding the right trainer
can be a daunting and frustrating task. Here at Powder View Stables
we believe in building the absolute best foundation for any horse we
work with, whether that horse is going on the be a trail mount or a
competitive athlete. First and foremost we believe the foundation that
all horses are trained on should consist of the following building
blocks- Rhythm, Suppleness, Contact, Impulsion, Straightness, and
Collection. These concepts are referred to as the Training Scale and we
throughly believe that following these guidelines and allowing the
horse to progress naturally through them makes them a successful
and content partner. We are not all about quick fixes, the latest bit, or
gadget to try to "make" your horse accomplish a task. We believe in
preparing the horse and then giving the rider the tools to help the two
of them preform at their best ability. We find that by following the
training scale, and allowing the horse to succeed and progress at their
own pace makes for a healthier, happier, animal.

At Powder View Stables we instill in our horses the absolute best
ground manners and respect by supplementing our training with
natural horsemanship and actual horse herd techniques. By doing so
we gain the animal's respect and trust.  We are firm believers in
building a partnership with the horses we train and then want to help
the owner of that horse be successful as well. Most of all we are not a
training factory, we take the time to assess each and every horse, listen
to the owners goals for the horse, and then take the  steps to achieve
that goal.

Training
Riders of ALL disciplines will find benefit from tried and tested training
techniques that have been in practice for centuries, in other words
Dressage. Many people hear the word Dressage and think of a strict
rigorous training program, with big horses, big movement, and lots of
technical details. In fact Dressage translates to training in French, and
essentially this is what we are doing every time we touch our horses.
Rather than try to make each horse fit into a mold, we cater our training
and lesson program to benefit the horse and rider to the best of
their
ability. Clients often find their horses are more engaged, supple, light,
through their back, and on the bit. They will carry themselves in a more
correct frame and do so not by being forced there but by being taught
to carry themselves. Which in turn  makes the rider seem like they are
doing nothing to influence the horse preform this way. This is the
ultimate goal whether you are planning on going down centerline or
riding a western horsemanship class. We use our methods to better horse
and rider, and make them a success, whether that be in the show ring or
on the trail!

The lesson program at Powder View Stables was created with the
amateur and youth rider in mind. We strive to cater a lesson program to
meet each students needs and personal goals. All beginning riders start
with the basics of horsemanship and dressage, also they will be taught
many aspects of horse care and actually be prepared  for horse
ownership. As the riders progress through the levels different disciplines
may be chosen depending on the desires of the student. We currently
accept students that ride Dressage from Intro to 2nd level, we accept all
levels of Hunt Seat, and Jumping riders as well. Of course we can't
forget anyone who wants to learn to ride western! Western riders find
that our dressage basics will help establish a more balanced seat, and a
better partnership with their  horse!

We strive to make the complicated theories and topics simple, and want
to make each ride a safe and fun one! All lessons are conducted by
Andrea Cole our CHA (certified horsemanship association) Certified
Instructor!
Andrea is certified Level 4 English riding and Level 2 Western riding.
